Methodology : Six Sigma & lean

Description

Six Sigma is a process improvement approach in the tradition of Deming. It’s main aim is to reduce variation in processes (sigma denotes standard deviation in statistics) and so reduce the number of products outside the range tolerated.

Six Sigma emphasizes the continuous effort needed to achieve the predictable and stable process results that are of vital importance to business success. All processes are measured and analyzed in order to achieve improvement and control, mostly in the reduction of deviations and errors. Six Sigma improvement requires commitment from the entire organization, particularly from top-level management.

Six Sigma differs from other quality improvement initiatives. It focuses more on achieving measurable and quantifiable financial returns, it takes decisions on the basis of verifiable data and puts a major emphasis on strong management leadership and support.

Six Sigma describes a set of roles in the process/quality improvement track and is a clear methodology for process and quality improvement.
