Project portfolio management

The Octant project portfolio management module is based on a central repository of all information available about the investments that are either executed or projected. It can contain various objects that characterize an investment, like the value of the project, the level of risk during its lifecycle, the expected return on investment and the actual one, the planning, and any information that is relevant in a management dashboard.

The structure of the project portfolio allows the tool to automatically create graphs showing how investments are allocated in each category, so that it becomes easy to verify that investments are balanced accordingly. This same graph can be used interactively in the investment revision process to make sure that allocation goals are met.

The main structure of the project portfolio is designed to satisfy top management needs. Additional views can be created to fulfill other requirements like, geographical views, divisional views, investment category, e.g. all investment that are focused on cost reduction or all projects that are executed by external contractors. It can be designed as a detailed dashboard for the PMO and project directors. Business unit managers can get a customized view of their investments. In short, it is a very versatile tool that adjusts itself to what a particular customer needs.
