Octant - simulation

Six Sigma

When applied to IT, Six Sigma aims at measuring and improving both internal processes, such as network speed or reliability, and business processes in which IT has a role, such as how well a CRM system is working. As a general rule, Six Sigma is used to address defects and delays in processes.

The Octant sigma tool module will first sort the defect list, calculate the Sigma, update a gauge and eventually set up the Pareto graph. A Pareto graph is a type of chart which contains both bars and a line graph, where individual values are represented in descending order by bars, and the cumulative percentage (or total) is represented by the line.

The tool displays the most severe defects in red, and the least severe one in light yellow. Once the root cause of each defect has been identified, the tool will be ready to simulate the proposed changes and their effect on the Sigma of the process. The targeted Sigma is shown as a second, gray needle on the gauge, and the projected cost reduction is displayed as well. At the end of the simulation, a dashboard can automatically be set up to track the progress over time.
